How To Beat Food Cravings

Keeping your mind distracted will allow you to avoid temptations and not succumb to the cravings that we often crave when we are bored, tired or idle.

What do you do to beat the cravings that occur throughout the day?  For many people, cravings are a big problem because they are trying to lead a healthy lifestyle. .

The reality is that it is not always easy to avoid it. Thinking of helping you, we have prepared a list of distractions and tips that will allow you to overcome cravings successfully.   Try all of them until you find the ones that work best for you and take advantage of their benefits when you need them.

1. Go for a walk to beat cravings

The first trick to beating cravings is to give yourself time to think about other things.  In addition, it is common for cravings to appear when you are tired, stressed or anxious, and walking will help you:

  • Clear your mind.
  • Improve your mood.
  • Increase your energy levels.
  • Lose weight if the walks are constant and last at least 30 minutes.

To reduce cravings, just walk for 15 minutes . Also, if you prefer, go accompanied. This will allow you to share your ideas and strengthen your interpersonal relationships.

It is important to stay hydrated before and after walking to prevent dehydration from causing you to feel hungry.

2. Breathe deeply or meditate

Another strategy to beat stress cravings is to meditate or take breaths that allow you to relax. .

All you need is:

  • Find a quiet place where you can spend a few minutes without being disturbed.
  • Inhale as deeply as possible for a count of four.
  • Hold the air for eight seconds.
  • Release the air little by little and repeat four more times.

You will see that after a couple of repetitions you will feel much better.  Still, finish all 4 sets to make sure you release all stress or tension. If you prefer, you can accompany the breathing exercise with some relaxing music.

3. Have a healthy snack

Are you trying to beat your cravings for something sweet? Maybe you fancy something crunchy and salty more?  Also, if you’ve gone several hours without eating, the craving may be justified.

If you can’t eat at that moment, then stop the craving with something that is healthy. When you want something sweet, opt for nuts or a serving of fruit. If you fancy something crunchy more, eat peanuts, almonds, or walnuts.

The consumption of nuts is beneficial for the body. They contain omega 3 fatty acids that help support cardiovascular health, according to a study published in the  Annual Review of Food Science and Technology. Anyway, do not eat more than a handful per serving, they are highly caloric and could disrupt the energy balance.

In case you have noticed that cravings appear at the same time of day, prepare to fight them by bringing healthy snacks . A good option is to anticipate a few minutes when the craving occurs and eat the snack. You will see that this way you avoid it completely.

4. Have a glass of water

When your mind is very busy, you may feel tired and your body will react by asking for something unhealthy. Therefore, a good strategy to overcome cravings is to drink a glass of water.

This will allow your brain to rehydrate and gives you a chance to distract yourself from what has been keeping you busy.

It is also important that the water is natural to avoid sugars, caffeine and other chemicals. If you wish and it is possible, it is a good idea to add an ice to the water. In case you want something flavored, add some natural lemon juice.

5. Play a bit on your phone

Playing a video game, like Tetris or any puzzle game, has been proven to help overcome cravings . The easiest option is to download one of these games on your cell phone and take it with you.

More or less, three minutes is the equivalent of one play, so that’s a perfect time.  Just remember not to get lost too much in the games and keep abreast of your occupations to avoid moments of stress due to excessive distractions.

6. Talk to someone
